Nota sul trasporto bici
La bici pieghevole viaggia sui treni senza sovrapprezzo. Se si è su un treno regionale con vagone o spazio dedicato per la bici, la stessa va posizionata lì, piegata. Non essendoci lo spazio apposito, va posizionata dove non arreca disturbo ad altri passeggeri.

Pedalare su una passerella di legno sulle dune, salutare il secondo faro più alto d’Italia, ammirare l’orizzonte dal promontorio della Riserva naturale di Punta Aderci. Per una giornata di escursione al mare, in un posto fuori dal tempo.

Partendo dalla stazione di Pescara centrale, la stazione di arrivo è quella del Porto di Vasto. Le destinazioni sono servite da una buona frequenza, anche con soluzioni di 1 cambio, fra Intercity e Regionale: su entrambi i treni in ogni caso la bici pieghevole viaggia senza alcun sovrapprezzo.

La stazione del Porto di Vasto è in una zona industriale ma in pochi minuti si entra in un altro mondo. Usciti dalla stessa, una volta sulla SS 16, sia gira a destra e al primo incrocio di nuovo a destra verso via Osca da percorrere tutta verso via Punta Penna, con il porto e i 70 metri di altezza del faro ben in vista. Si gira per la discesa a sinistra fino ad arrivare al mare, da dove inizia la passerella in legno, per pedalare sulla spiaggia di dune.

Al termine della passerella c’è una salitella di circa 1 km fra sterrato e gradini in legno, da percorrere con bici a mano. Potrebbe risultare faticoso ma non impossibile. 

Tornati su asfalto si percorre la strada fino allo sterrato ben battuto della Riserva. All’inizio del sentiero c’è anche una fontanella, che torna utile. Non resta che raggiungere la punta del promontorio è lasciarsi accarezzare dal vento.

Al momento in cui scriviamo sono in corso i lavori per la realizzazione della ciclabile Bike to coast per collegare Punta Aderci al sistema ciclabile sulla costa.

Note on bike transport
Free transport for folding bikes. You don’t need a proper ticket for your bike. Once on the train you have to carry your bike already folded and place it in the appropriate wagon: you can find it on Regional trains, marked in the timetables with the bike icon. Otherwise you can place it in a space where it doesn’t bother other passengers.

Riding on a wooden footbridge over the dunes, in the presence of the second highest lighthouse in Italy, admiring the horizon from the Punta Aderci Nature Reserve promontory. 

A day trip, in a place out of time.

Getting on a train at Pescara central station, the arrival is Porto di Vasto one. It’s a quite well served  destination, you can choose Regional or Intercity trains (one change, in this case): on both tipe of trains you can carry on your folding bike.

Let’s say that Port of Vasto station is in an industrial area. By the way, in a few minutes you enter in another world, and the panorama changes. 

Once out of the station, you are on SS 16 road, just turn right and at the first intersection turn right again towards via Osca to go all the way to via Punta Penna, reaching the port. Have a look at the lighthouse there.

Once reached the beautiful beach, just take the wooden walkway on the dunes. At the end of it you will have to dismount and walk up the path (1 km): it may be tiring but not impossible. Back on asphalt, follow the road until the well-beaten white road of the Reserve. 
If you are thirsty, there’s a drinking fountain on your left at the beginning of the path. Now just reach the tip of the promontory and let yourself be caressed by the wind.

At the time of writing, they are working at the Bike to coast path to connect Punta Aderci to the cycle route of the coast.
